Mr. Isaac J. Hammond and Miss Elizabeth Bridges were married at the bride’s home near Fincastle, Ind last Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The residence was elaborately decorated with lilies of the valley, white carnations, pink roses and May apple blossoms. In front of the grate was built a large arch and bower of fragrant flowers and green plants. A beautiful cluster of Easter lilies swung in the arch and across the opening there was tied a bow of pearl white satin ribbon while the mantle was banked with green and bloom. Promptly at 3 o’clock Miss Sallie Bridges began playing the wedding march. Little Miss Hattie Bridges led the way, gracefully untying the white satin knot and the bride and groom took their positions under the floral canopy. Here they plighted their troth “for better or for worse,” the Rev. TS Guthrie of Lafayette pronouncing the ceremony in a most impressive manner. An elaborate dinner was served at 4 o’clock, the guests greatly enjoying the hospitality. The groom was dressed in conventional black and the bride wore a tan traveling dress and carried a bouquet of white roses. After many farewells and good wishes they were driven to the Vandalia depot and took the 6 o’clock train., Many costly and elegant presents were received by the bride. The wedding trip will include Nashville, Chattanooga and other Southern cities where they will visit friends. The groom is a son of Thomas C. Hammond, president of the First National Bank and is well known throughout the county. Mr. Hammond graduated at DePauw with the class of 87 and was a member of Beta Fraternity. The bride is the daughter of Milton A. Bridges, one of the oldest settlers of the county. She belonged to the class of 90 at DePauw and is a member of the Theta fraternity. When they return from their wedding trip, Mrs. Thomas Hammond will give a large reception in honor of the bride to her lady friends. Their home will be on Poplar Street in the O’Brien property. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. C. Hammond, Lafayette; Mrs. Lottie McMurray, Ills; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Saper, Danville; Dr. and Mrs. Dunington, Darlington, Ind; Dr. Bridges, New York City, brother of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Allen, Mrs. James Darnall, Mrs. Mahoney, Mr. James Bridges and family and Mr. and Mrs. Robert O’Hair of this city. Along with their many friends we extend hearty congratulations and best wishes.
