MARTIN, Abe - Mrs Martin

Source: Greencastle Herald 7 Feb 1912 p 1

The actions of an irate wife sued for divorce by her cruel and inhuman husband, caused a riotous scene in the court room of the IOOF hall Tuesday evening.  Mrs. Abe Martin, the distracted spouse when the court balif, Ross Wells, attempted to eject her from the court room, proceeded to draw a deadly weapon, namely an umbrells and showered blow after blow upon the page of the judge, her husband’s attorney and in fact every person who attempted to thwart her actions.  She cleared the room and seeing no opposition, decided that she had won the divorce suit and once more was a free woman.  None of the court officials dared to deny the fact and she was granted the decree.  It all occurred when Abe Martin sued poor Mrs. Martin alleging that she treated him cruelly.  Mr. Martin employed George Wilson as his attorney.  Mrs. Martin secured the services of FSW Hamilton and the suit was brought to trial Tuesday night before Judge Theodore Crawley, JW Dunnington,  the man representing Abe Martin, the distressed husband, seemed rather cress fallen when his “wife” Mrs. Abe Martin appeared in the personnel of Eugene Snider, dressed in battle array and ready for the fight.  The divorce proceedings had proceeded for only a few minutes when the judge ordered Ross Wells, court bailiff, to remove Mrs. Martin from the room.  Riot then broke loose and when the smoke cleared, Mrs. Martin and a large stout looking umbrella had undisputed possession of the court room and her title to the divorce suit was unquestioned.  The little stunt which was given for the benefit of the Greencastle Rebekah Lodge, caused much merriment from the large number of guests present.   ---transcribed by kbz
