Fort - Bettie vs Eli - Putnam

Bettie Fort has brought suit for divorce from Eli Fort. Eli was formerly a barber in this city and the complaint which was filed by John W. Layne, attorney, states they were married in June 1893; that during their married life the defendant was guilty of cruel and inhuman treatment; that he struck plaintiff severe blows and at times threatened to kill plaintiff and her father; that since June 1893, the defendant has failed to make any provision for her or their family; one child, Alma K. Fort was born to them and the plaintiff asks custody of her. Plaintiff asks $1000 alimony; $100 per year for maintenance and custody of the child.
