Mahan & Gardner, General Merchandise In July 1893, Mr. Mahan bought HM Grimes' interesting a stock of general merchandise and the style of the firm became Hodgkins' and Mahan: in about 18 months George Scott succeded Mr. Hodgkins, and from that time to Jan 15, 1901 the firm was known as Mahan & Scott. In 1898 the old frame building was moved back and a two-story and basement brick room 30 x 80' was erected by this firm, the old building used as a warehouse. Jan 15, 1901, Mr. Scott retired from the firm and Geo. B. Gardner became the new partner. Mr. Gardner, the junior member was a farmer until January of the present year, this being his first experience in business. That the business is satisfactory is proved by the fact the upper story of the building has just been fitted up to receive a line of ladies' tailored garments, carpets, etc. That the trade has grown is shown by the fact ... sorry, rest gone -kbz
