M. Maloney – Timber Dealer

Source: Souvenir Edition of the Russellville Record, 1901?

The subject of this sketch, while a resident of Bainbridge has made this place his headquarters for three years. Notwithstanding the fact that the knowing ones said several years ago, that “the timber of Indiana is now but a memory; of what was once the wealth of the state 3/5 was wasted, 1/5 used for building purpose and the other fifth sold for fairly good prices and the money blown for celluloid collars and cigarettes,” Mr. Maloney since commencing operations in this vicinity has bought and shipped from here considerably more than one million feet of good grade poplar, oak and walnut timber. All who know him agree that he is not only an affable and clever business man, but “when Mike sees a tree, he knows what it is worth and the number of feet it contains, exactly, precisely, just to the dot.” -- kbz
