In 1877 Mr. Grimes began clerking in a general merchandise business, since that time he has been a member of several different firms, principally in general merchandise. In August of 18 he became allied with the firm of Grimes, Ross & Brumfield and continued with this firm until 1891. In 1895 he established the poultry packing business here, that this business has proven satisfactory to him is evidenced by the following figure:
For the year 1900, 284,304 pounds of dressed poultry and 111,850 dozen eggs were shipped from this point. For 1899 $30,000 represented the volume of business: for 1900, $25,000 while the present yer will reach a figure near the $28,000 mark. While this is a great stock country, this business under Mr. Grimes’ management shows that some attention is paid to poultry raising as well. – kbz
