WILSON, John Jr. "Russell Township. " P. O. Russellville, Farmer, Sec 9 was born Nov 30, 1815 in Fleming Co KY son of Thomas WIlson b. PA June 13, 1775 and Jane Hughs Wilson b. PA July 18, 1789; they settled in this county in 1826 on Sec 9 of this township when John H. was 11. Here he married Dec 6, 1838 Portia Ann, daughter of John and Mary Boyle, natives of PA; she was born in Bath Co KY Oct 30, 1815; her parents died in Posey Co IN when she was quite young, has had 5 children: Euphemia A; Mary Jane; Amanda J; Martha H and John C. Mr. Wilson's parents left KY where they had been married in Fleming County July 15, 1805, in order to give their children a better start in life and to remove them from the degrading influence of slavery, which they considered contrary to justice and Christianity; they entered land for each of their children, amounting to 560 acres. His father died March 6, 1850, his mother sept 17, 1876; are buried in the family graveyard, located on the old home farm; both were members of the Christian Church. Mrs. Wilson's father was a Capt. in the Revolutionary Army; both parents died in Posey County, Ind when she was quite young. The Wilson and Hugheses are of Irish descent. Mr. Wilson is a Republican, and owns 403 acres of land. The family belong to the Christian Church.
