Elaborate plans are being made by the Indianapolis Council of the PEO sisterhood for the 25th annual Founder’s Day luncheon Saturday Jan 19 in the ballroom of Columbia Club … new luster will be added to this traditional event when members and guests proudly greet Mrs. Simpson M. Stoner, Greencastle who was elected to Supreme Chapter last October at the 40th biennial convention of PEO in Philadelphia. Mrs. Stoner became recording secretary after serving as chairman of the education fund on the boards of trustees. Mrs. Stoner enjoys the distinction of being the first Indiana Chapter member to serve as an officer on the Supreme Chapter … a Native Hoosier, Mrs. Stoner’s father, Dr. WM McGaughey who die din 1947, was a physician in Greencastle for more than 40 years. He was graduated from DePauw in 1897 and 30 years later his daughter, Mrs. Stoner was graduated from DePauw. Her brother, William M. McGaughey was graduated from DePauw in 1935 and in 1939 was graduated from Harvard Medical School. Today he is a phychiatrist in Oakland, Cal. Margaret Emily McGaughey Stoner is qualified by her background, education and experience for her present office in the Supreme Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood. She was initiated in Chapter I Greencastle in 1927 and her mother was a charter member when this chapter was organized in 1923. Mrs. Stoner later became president of Chapter I and for the past 11 years has served as president and in various other officers in the Indiana State Chapter and in national officers and on national boards.
