Samuel D. Smith - The candidate for sheriff is a native of Butler County, Ohio, a county which has produced some of the best citizens of our county. He was born in 1824 and therefore has just completed a half century. He came to this county in 1835, and has been a constant resident ever since, except a period of four years, spent in Putnam County. He received such an education as the common schools of his boyhood days afforded, quitting school at the age of thirteen years to learn the tailors trade, which business he commenced with George Pearson in the fall of 1837, and has depended upon his needle for the support of himself and family ever since that time, except during an absence of four years in the army. - kbz
