SCOTT, George H. P. O. Portland Mills, Farmer, Sec 19; born Sept 10, 1806 in Cork co East Tenn, son of John and Jane Campbell Scott, natives of VA; his parents were married in Tenn and had a family of 10 children; he being the 3rd; they removed to Fleming Co KY when he was 12 and there resided til death. On Oct 8, 1829, he was united in marriage to Sarah R. Lawson born April 15, 1809 in KY daughter of Jacob and Sarah Brice Lawson, natives of VA; had a family of 15 children: Lucinda J, born May 2, 1831; Irena July 29, 1832; Julia A Jan 19, 1834; James E Jan 3, 1836; John L, Dec 27, 1837; Wiliam H, March 13, 1839 (died Sept 1876); George M, April 10, 1841; Simpson S, March 24, 1843; Sarah E, Nov 24, 1844 (died in infancy); Sarah E, Jan 9, 1846; Wesley T. Nov 5, 1848; Robert H Oct 28, 1850; Fatima I., Nov 11, 1851; Jacob C T Aug 23, 1854 and one girl who died in infancy. In 1832, Mr. Scott arrived in this county, bought 166 acres of land, 7 of which were cleared, a log cabin being the only improvement; in this he began his new life, helping to convert a wilderness into one of the most productive counties in the state; he has held the position of Twp. Assessor for 10 years and is a man of tried honestly; his descendants, children, grandchildren and great number 121; four of his sons entered the army in 1862; William H and George M. enlisted in the 21st Ind Inf; James E. in 87th Regt; Co B and Simpson S. in the 43rd; the latter was killed in battle on Saline RIver, Ark April 27, 1864. In religious belief, Mr. Scott is a Presbyterian his wife a Christian; politically the family is Republican.
