ROBINSON, Samuel. P. O. Carpentersville, Farmer, Section 15; is the son of Andrew (born in Ireland) and Harriet Rosencranz Robinson (born in Genessee Co NY); settled with his parents in this county when it was but a wilderness in 1824, on Section 15, Russell Township. He married in June, 1840 in Monroe Twp, Sally Ann HARDESTY; born Ky Feb 1, 1823; they have had 13 children: Andrew J; James E; Ellen; Nancy Jane; Susan M.; Harriet; Robert; Benjamin F (all dying in infancy); Edwin H. (married Polly J. Miller who bore him 4 children, two living) died April 1874; Maria E. (wife of William Aldridge, Kansas); John M; Joshua H. and Albert. He commenced life at the foot of the ladder, cleared 10 acres of land at the rate of $2. 50 per acre, taking a horse in payment; now owns 187 acres, all improved. Is a Democrat, and has always shown a commendable example in his temperate habits, never having drank a drop of whiskey. After his marriage, his parents removed to Boone County, Indiana purchasing 160 acres of land, on which they lived 25 years, spending the remainder of their years with their daughter Susan, he dying in his 87th year in 1868; she in 1876. Mr. Samuel Robinson's first wife was Sarah Heath, daughter of Edwin H. and Elizabeth Heath, natives of NC, whom he married 1834; she died 1837. The present Mrs. Robinson is a member of the Methodist Church, her husband leaning toward Universalism; the parents of both were soldiers in the War of 1812.
