OWEN, Thomas A. P. O. Parkersburg, Montgomery Co Ind Farmer, Section 8; was born in Stokes Co NC Sept 12, 1827 son of (sic - portion missing) and Rachel Job Owen born Aug 9, 1796 same state. Married Eliza Jane Dickerson March 14, 1850 in this township by whom he had six children: Aaron S., Mary E., Elizabeth F., John F., all whom died in infancy; Alfred M., born Oct 23, 1858 and Daniel V., born Sept 23, 1860. Mr. Owen owns 197 acres of land in this township and he and his family are highly respected in the neighborhood. Is a Republican and member of the Christian Church as is his wife.

Enlisted in Co L, 19th Regt 5th Cavalry which regiment captured the noted Gen. John Morgan, serving with it throughout the war, and taking part in 17 noted battles. His father was a soldier in the War of 1812, moved to this county in 1829 where he resided till his death Jan 30, 1862, his wife having died 1830. His grandfather, Spicer Owen, was a native of Wales, immigrated to this country in 1773; served under Gen. George Washington 7 years, with the rank of Drum Major, was in all his campaigns and present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. Mrs. T. A. Owen, born in Monroe Co Ky July 28, 1826 is the daughter of Col. John R. and Mary Grider Dickerson the former born June 5, 1780 died Aug 22, 1869 the latter born April 20, 1788 Greenbrier Co VA died July 17, 1861, both parents were highly respected, their deaths being considered a loss to the community; Mrs. Owen's father also served in the revolutionary war. (sic - he couldn't have having been born in 1780)
