The other day Capt. JEM O’Hair, of Brick Chapel, in overhauling some old papers, discovered his first tax receipt, given him in Kentucky in 1826. At that time the captain’s worldly possessions consisted of a mare and cold valued at $75 on which he paid a tax of five cents. He has accumulated a large and valuable property since that time and is one of the most substantial and respected citizens of Putnam County as are also his numerous children – Greencastle Banner.
