MOREY, William L.

William L. Morey

This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.
Typed by Lora Radiches:

WILLIAM L. MOREY. The career of the late William L. Morey, of Clinton, was a substantial contribution to not only the commercial activities but to public progress in his home community. He was a merchant, agriculturist and banker, a very high minded and patriotic citizen and one of the most influential men in this section of the Wabash River Valley. Mr. Morey was born at Clinton, September 30, 1854, and died July 8, 1928. His father, Benjamin F. Morey, who died nearly twenty years ago, was also a leading figure in the life of Clinton, being a pioneer merchant. Benjamin F. Morey married Mrs. Sarah Wishard Bogart, a native of Kentucky. They had two children, William and Mrs. C. M. White, both now deceased.
William L. Morey attended schools in Clinton, and began his practical career with a liberal education, having graduated with the A. B. Degree from Wabash College in 1876. Leaving school, he entered the drug business with his father, became a partner in the firm of B. F; Morey & Son, and carried this business on for a great many years. His interests were expanded into other directions. He became president of the Citizens Bank of Clinton, was a director of the Clinton Electric Company, the Clinton Paving Brick Company, the Crown Hill Coal Company, and was thus a factor in the growing industrial prosperity of the city. Politically he voted as a Republican, and his abilities and personal integrity would have honored any office, though he was without political aspirations.

Mr. Morey married, October 25, 1882, Miss Clara Swinehart, daughter of Reson H. Swinehart. The Swinehart family came from Pennsylvania to Western Indiana. Mrs. Morey continues to reside in Clinton. She is the mother of four children: Mrs. Fred Sutfin, B. F. Morey, Mrs. Lee Ham, of Marshall, Michigan, and Lee B., of New York City.
