Jan 15, 1856. Rev. John Mercer. He was born in NC, 11-30-1785. Went thence to GA; thence to TN, and thence to IN; and between thirty and forty years since settled in Monroe Co, IN. He staid there a few years,and then came to Putnam Co. where he lived till the day of his death. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1805; but did not embrace religion until 1810. His first license to preach was signed by Rev. Moses Crume, presiding elder, in 1815. he was ordained deacon by Bishop Roberts, 9-20-1822; and was ordained by the same in 1830. From the time of his conversion he was zealous in the cause of religion. He was a man for his day and country. William Meginniss
