McCULLOUGH, Rachel J., P. O. Reelsville, Section 17; was born in Edgar County, Ill., March 23, 1834, and came to Reelsville in 1848. Was married in 1857, to West McCULLOUGH, being his second wife; at the time of their marriage, her husband had eight children, and to her were born six sons and four daughters, all living but one, a son who was killed accidentally May 14, 1877, at the age of sixteen years; the following are the names of those living: James Albert, aged twenty years; Perry, nineteen years; Martha Ann, sixteen years; Hester A., fourteen years; Eliza J., eleven years; Nelson, nine years; Lee, eight years; Joseph R., six years; Flora E., three years. Her children and stepchildren all live in Indiana, most of them near her present home. Her husband West McCULLOUGH, was born in Tennessee; one of a family of sixteen children; he settled in this township in 1830, and died two years ago, after a lingering illness, aged fifty-seven years; at the commencement of his life, he worked by the day to get money enough to buy his first forty acres, gradually added to them till at the time of his death he owned nearly six hundred acres, and left his wife and family in comfortable circumstances. He served one term as Justice of the Peace Although not a member of any church, he was a believer in the Bible; upright in all his dealings and a kind friend to all in need. He had great natural talent for business; his neighbors frequently called on him to make calculation for them. His death caused regret to all.
