The program committee for the Chautauqua have about completed its labors and announced by far the best list of talent that has ever been obtained for a local Chautauqua the week of August 7 – 14 inclusive has been chosen for the period this year and the eight days will be replete with fun, entertainment and instruction. Realizing that a large part of the success of a Chautauqua is due to the way in which the talent is introduced and managed and to the spirit which is created by the person in charge of the exercises, the committee have this year obtained Harry Maxwell of Greencastle, Indiana who is regarded by many people as the best platform manager in the country. He has had charge of several of the largest chautauquas in the West and for the last two years has been in charge of the Bay View program. He is a tenor soloist of unusual ability and has had much experience in platform and assembly work of different kinds. He knows how to entertain an audience and to conduct programs in the most enthusiastic style. His work will guarantee the proper Chautauqua spirit at every session. For the afternoon and evening of Sunday, Aug 7 LG Herbert will be lecturer. He is one of the few most prominent lecturers out last year and his reputation is excellent. The first musical attraction, which will be here on Sunday and Monday will be the Parland-Newhall company. This is a male quartet and bell ringing quartet which has ranked in the first class of such organizations for a number of years. It is doubtful if their work is surpassed by any male quartet on the road. Harry Lucas, whose cornet solos from the treetop last year were such a pleasing feature of the evening preludes ….
