Daniel W. MACY, farmer, Jefferson Township was born in Hamilton County, Indiana Nov 19, 1846, a son of Joseph and Ann Macy, the former anative of NC and latter of Ohio. His father removed to Rush County, Indiana in 1829 and resided there several years. His parents were married in 1832, and had 11 children, 8 of whom survive: Adaline, wife of Joseph Hankinson of Nebraska; Marcus m of Kansas; Armilda J; Henry C of Boone county, this state; Daniel W; Eudora E; annie, wife of Arthur Wilmeth of Henry Co Iowa; and Melvina. SOon after their marriage they settled in Hamilton County where they lived until 1852, then removed to clinton co in living there until 1862, thence to Boone County, thence to Henry Co Iowa in 1872, where the father die din 1885. His mother still resides in Iowa. In 1867 Daniel W. began to learn the blacksmith's trae, which he followed 20 yeaers and for the last 13 has conducted a shop at Belle Union. He was married Aug 25, 1872 to Samantha J. Brown born sept 3, 1855 in Shelby Co in. She is a daughter of William H. and Mary E. Brown, the former a native of Rush Co In and latter of Greene Co, Pa. To Mr. and Mrs. Macy have been born six children: Oma W; Howard E; Ernest L; Eudoras T; Nora O and Genevieve, the last two are deceased. Mr. Macy owns a good farm of 140 acres and is a successful farmer. In June 1863, Mr. Macy enlisted in the 17th Ind Battery Light Artillery. He was in Sheridan's campaign in the Shenandoah Valley and around Richmond, participating in 26 battles, and was discharge in July 1865. Mr. Macy came to Putnam Co in 1873, and has been a resident here ever since. He is a member of the Masonic Fraternity, belonging to a lodge at Eminence.

Mr. DW Macy, the gallant soldier boy blacksmith whose honest, smiling face created such great enthusiasm at the county convention is an ideal man for sheriff.  He was born in Hamilton County, Indiana Nov 19, 1846 moving with his parents to Clinton County in 1852 there living on a farm until 1863 where he enlisted in the 17th Indiana battery, running from home to do so. He joined his company at Harper’s Ferry and immediately entered active service, taking part in all the battles fought in the bloody Shenandoah Valley also Maryland Heights and Harper‘s Ferry.  His soldier life closed with his honorable discharge July 26, 1865.  He next began learning the blacksmith trade which vocation he has followed moving to Belle Union in 1873 and living there ever since, working at his trade.  Aug 25, 1872 Mr. Macy married Miss SJ Brown of Rush County and six children blessed their home.  In politics Mr. Macy has always been a republican and his services to his party have been many.  He has never held office but his many friends and neighbors have such confidence in his ability that they will without regard to politics give him a  magnificent vote.  Mr. Macy is a winner and he will poll a string of votes such as no republican in many a year has done.
