William G. LEACHMAN, bookseller, was born in Mason county, Kentucky Dec 26, 1823, and is the eldest of four children of Willoughby and Elizabeth Webster Leachman. His early life was spent in attending school, working on the farm and clerking. When of age he began business for himself by starting a tannery. This he continued for four years and then farmed for a time. In 1864, he came to Douglas County and farmed on a place of his own, consisting of 200 acres. In 1874, he moved to Tuscola, and opened a book store, and is now doing a thriving business. On June 24, 1847, he married Miss Emma Cassity of Putnam County, Indiana. They have five children: Mary a, now Mrs. J. W. Bridges of Fillmore, Indiana; Willoughby married and living in Garret Township, Douglas County; Alonzo, married and living in Champaign County; Elizabeth T now Mrs. W. Green of Kankakee and James O. deceas ed. Mr. Leachman and wife are members of the Church of Christ, and he is a strong Prohibitionist. He is a first class business man, and highly-regarded citizen.
