To this Excellency the Governor of Indiana

Sir: I desire to bring under your notice Proctor J. H. Knight, Hospital Steward of the 27th

Regiment Indiana Volunteers, as suitable person for promotion tot eh office of Assistant Surgeon in one of the regiments of your State. His acquaintance with the regimental duties, added to complete medical information, qualify him for the position; and his service in the field hospitals at Antietam have been very valuable, and equal to those which were performed by the Assistant Surgeon in charge. I think and feel happy in being able to testify in this way to her merits.
