JEFFRIES, GEORGE, P. O. Ashby's Mills, Farmer, Section 9; son of William and Nancy Jeffries, was born in Spartanburgh County, S. C., September 5, 1798. When he was an infant of three months, his parents immigrated to Shelby County, Ky., traveling on horse-back. After some years spent there, in the year 1832, came to the State of Indiana, and entered 160 acres of land, on which he now lives; many years of hard and constant labor have converted a wilderness into a well-cultivated farm. He married March 24, 1828, Hannah, daughter of Leonard and Abigail Smoots; have never had any children. Mr. Jeffries is a Democrat, and has never missed voting. In religion, he is a Liberal.
