David James, P. O. Parkersburg, Montgomery County, Indiana Farmer Section 8; was born in Roanoke Co VA April 29, 1807, son of Thomas James born in Bedford, Ky Aug 18, 1781 and Barbara Britts born in Roanoke Co VA Oct 30, 1782 who settled in this county about 1835. Married Hannah Dewitt in Perry Co IN April 27, 1837; by this union he had 5 children, 3 died in infancy two yet living - Solomon L, born Jan 24, 1838 and Isaac T born April 5, 1844. He was again married Feb 12, 1851 to Mary Ann Grimes (Maiden name Howard) to whom were born: Susannah Jan 29, 1852; Sophia A Aug 1, 1853; Emma, March 20, 1856 and Mary Ann Villa Dec 9, 1861. A few years after his first marriage, Mr. James lost, through the rascality of others, his property, won by hard work and valued at about $10,000; starting again to make a home, he moved to Iowa, where he lived 4 years, then came to this county where he has since resided, owning at present 119 1/2 acres. Politically, he is Republican, but votes independently of party. His two sons, Solomon and Isaac, enlisted in 1862, under General Lew Wallace, and served through the war, the former losing his arm in battle.
