INGE, William Thornton. P. O. Portland Mills, Farmer, Sec 31; born Aug 15, 1827 in VA son of Chesley Lambert Inge, born in VA 1796 and Francis Morton Lipscomb, born in VA; settled in this county in 1864. Was married Nov 3, 1859 to Julia Ann Rawley, born Aug 14, 1837 in Clay Co IN daughter of Elijah and Lavinia Pritchet Rawley, he a native of NC and she of Ohio; Children: William C, born Aug 18, 1860; Mary Jane, July 26, 1862 (died same day); Chesley Morton June 25, 1863; Martha F. Nov 3, 1867; George L. Jan 16, 1871; and Bertha Ann Feb 7, 1875 died Sept 12, 1876. Mr. Inge is the 5th in a family of 14, six living. His parents moved to Shelby Co KY in 1830, then in 1836 to Parke County, Ind; in 1866, they went to MO lived there 4 years, then settled in Neosho Falls, KS where Mr. Inge died Oct 19, 1870; he was a soldier in the War of 1812; a member of the Christian Church, and of the Masonic fraternity; his last words were, "When the Lord is ready, I am. " His wife, also a Christian, lives in KS with her son, Daivd R. Inge. The subject of this sketch left home in 1849, bound for the gold mines of California; soona fter his arrival there was taken sick and obliged to return; in 1852, went again and stayed till 1858, when he returned to his old home, where he has since resided and now owns 220 acres of land well improved. Is a Republican in politics, and a member of the Christian Church, though his wife is a Methodist; the Inges are of English descent, some of their ancestors coming to VA before the independence of the US.
