HENSLEY, Ab - Putnam

Ab Hensley, Greencastle character certainly has seen the ups and downs of life.  Besides traveling with a circus as an elephant man, he served one summer as “inside” man for a parachute jumper – he stayed inside the balloon while it was being inflated with hot air to see that sparks from the furnace did not set afire to the balloon.  (I still can see him “coming up” for air ever once and awhile during the inflation period).  And now he is “subbing” for the regular elevator operator in the court house.  Today he admitted to me that although it was not as big a job as handling elephants or inflating balloons, it was a much more elevating position.    ~~~transcribed by kbz
