GARDNER, Samuel. P. O. Fincastle, Farmer, Sec 16; was born Dec 30, 1839 in Putnam County Ind. Married Sept 26, 1861, Sarah Jane, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Brothers, natives of VA who settled in this county 1828; Mrs. Gardner who was born in this township March 18, 1843 has had six children: Melinda M. born March 28, 1865; Sophia S. Dec 23, 1867; Harry H. Nov 11, 1869; Susan D. Nov 29, 1871; Samuel L. April 18, 1875 and Lucy E. Sept 3, 1877. Mr. Gardner is the 7th in a family of 14 children, 10 of whom are living; his father and grandparents came to this county 1826; where the former married Lucy Spencer, by whom he had 12 children; she died June 18, 1849; his second wife was Mary Bundrant who bore him two children. He lives now on his farm of 280 acres in Clinton Township. Mr. Gardner owns 85 acres of land is a hard working, energetic man. Belongs to the National party. His and wife's families were among the first settlers.
