GARDENER, John. P. O. Russellville, Farmer, Sec 9; born Oct 10, 1832 in this township; his father was Andrew Gardener born in NC who married int hat state margaret Byerly, by whom he had 9 children, John W. being one of this family. His mother dying Aug 26, 1838, in Putnam County, his father married again, this time Nancy Everman who bore him six children, 3 yet living; at the time of his death, Aug 21, 1849, he was the owner of 900 acres of land, and personal property to the amount of $11,000. The subject of the present sketch was united by marriage Dec 11, 1851 to Lucinda Fargy (sic - Forgey) born in this township, May 19, 1834, daughter of James and Jane Vanschoiack Fargy, natives of nicholas Co Ky; 7 chldren were born to them - George, William, Nathan, Charles, Edward, annie and Maggie. His present residence, a fine one, cost him $4,000 situated on a farm of 160 acres. He and his wife belong to the ME Church; is a Republican in politics, and one of the best known men in the county.
