DAY, Charles Ruben

Charles Ruben Day

Source: The Day Families of Putnam County

I was born and raised in Putnam County, Indiana. I have always been interested in my dad's family but was told that his grandfather (my great-grandfather) had been orphaned. Seems like the end of the line doesn't it? I refuse to let it be. My Dad died without knowing who his grandfather's parents were but with your help I hope to be able to find the information that was so elusive to me while he was still alive.

Many years ago I went to the courthouse and I wrote down everything that I could find that had the name Day on it. I checked marriage licenses, birth and death records, land records, you name it. A pattern began to emerge but I still couldn't find the information I needed. So I'm going to lay out what I found for you and maybe one of you will hear bells and whistles enough to help me with this. This is my family: Charles Ruben Day, b 30 May 1862, Claiborne County, TN, died 29 Jun 1944, Putnam Co., IN, married Frances Mary Ann Muncie, 31 Aug 1884, Clay Co., IN. Frances was the daughter of Reuben Muncie, b KY and Gincy Bullock, b NC They had five children:

Oscar Day, b 22 Jun 1885; d 14 Jun 1903

Rosa Day, b 24 Jan 1887; married Curtis Harcourt 19 Mar 1908. Rosa died Rettie M. (Ina) Day, b 18 Jul 1889; married Virgil Blue 12 Jan 1908. Ina died 15 Dec 1948 Ruben Roses Day, b 08 Mar 1892; died 03 Feb 1907 Francis "Frank" Willard Day, b 02 Jun 1894, married Lillie May Ikamire, 29 Oct 1913. Frank died 22 Oct 1957. I have never been able to find Charles Ruben Day on an 1870 census. Grandma Day--Lillie

Ikamire Day--showed me a White Bible that had the following written in the margin of one of the pages. Will Day and Emmeline Simmons, "Clabber Co., TN." I finally realized that Clabber County must be Claiborne County and it had been spelled as it sounded when the writer heard it.

I finally found Charles Ruben, or Ruben as most called him, on the 1880 census for Clay County, IN at the age of 18 as a boarder in the household of a John and Eliza Hadley. No known relationship and I have been unable to locate a relationship.

I have grasped at straws for many years, gathering information until I'm up to my hipbones it. This is that information. Putnam County, Indiana.
