DAVIS, Elizabeth, PO Putnamville; daughter of Joel and Margaret K. THOMAS was born June 25, 1798 in KY. Was married Aug 6, 1814 to Luke, son of Joseph and Sarah Davis, by the Rev. Mr. Hunt of the Methodist Church. Mr. Davis was a stone-mason by trade, but spent most of his life farming. He and his wife moved from KY and settled in this county where he lived until his death which occurred Oct 18, 1866; all their own children died in infancy but have had under their care 15 orphans, taking 7 of one family, cared for and educated and, by their example and training reared them to be good, useful men and women. Since her husband's death Mrs. Davis has lived alone; is a kind, Christian old lady, having been a member of the ME Church for over 60 years. Her father, Joel Thomas was born in PA 1768 settled in Montgomery Co KY where he married Margaret KENNEDY by whom he had 9 children. His father was an officer in the Revolutionary War. He and his son rendered valuable service in repelling the attacks of the enemy. Mr. Davis' father was also a soldier in the Revolutionary war, afterward settled in KY being the second white settler in the state. His mother's request of him on her deathbed was that he, if possible should marry Elizabeth Thomas.
