Mrs. Crose was born in Nicholas County, Ky March 5, 1806. She was the 7th of a family of 11 children. Her father, John McCoy was a native of Pennsylvania and her mother, whose maiden name was Mary Everman, was brought up in Tiger Valley, Virginia. Soon after their marriage they emigrated to Kentucky, settling near Lexington and were among the early pioneers of that country. Mrs. Crose’s life has nearly all been spent on the farm until she moved to Greencastle. She inherited an excellent physical constitution and has generally been in good health. At the age of 17 she made a profession of religion and was baptized by Elder Peter Horr, one of the old pioneer preachers of Kentucky and has since been a member of the Christian church. She was married Aug 29, 1833 to Michael Crose of Bourbon County, Ky. On Aug 25, 1835 their eldest son, John was born in 1836 they moved to Putnam County. After remaining 10 months she moved to Springfield, Ill settling on a tract of land which is now very valuable. They only remained about three years. In 1840 they returned to Indiana and lived near and in Cloverdale until in 1866 she moved to this city where she now resides. Her husband died Oct 24, 1877. Mrs. Crose is the mother of six children two of whom, John and Elizabeth are still living. Her sons, John and Ben were in the war of the rebellion. ~~~Transcribed and Typed by kbz
