COOPER, Archibald, PO Putnamville, Farmer Sec 10; was born Feb 25, 1836 in this county; son of Archibald and Elizabeth HODGES Cooper. He was married Dec 22, 1863 in this county by Rev. Mr. Walls, a Methodist Minister to Frances E. CONNELY, by whom he has had 4 children: James W, born Juy 21, 1865; Marion Edgar born May 17, 1868; Amanda Maud born April 30, 1870 and William Albert born NOv 24, 1872. Mr. Cooper lived with his father, farming and superintending the farm work, till his marriage, and for a year after; when he removed to Harrison Township, Clay County and settled on 163 acres of his own land; he remained there two years and then returned to this county, settling in his present home now owns 333 acres all under cultivation; he is a very successful farmer, devoting his whole time to farming and stock raising. Mr. Cooper's father was born in Greenbrier Co VA Jan 15, 1798 and when quite young moved to Tenn; at the age of 16, he enlisted in the army and served till the close of the war on April 6, 1823, he was married to Elizabeth Hodges (maiden name Todd) and in October 1834, removed with his family to Putnam Co IN settling in the following year in Putnamville; a few years after, he moved to the farm now owned and occupied by his son James; here he resided till his death which occurred April 17, 1872 his wife Elizabeth Cooper was born in Clairborne Co Tenn Feb 14, 1800, and died Jan 26, 1868. Mrs. Archibald Cooper is the daughter of Gilmore and Jane Connelly and was born in this township Jan 21, 1838; her father was born in Montgomery Co KY May 5, 1799 died April 27, 1863; her mother, born March 15, 1802, in the same county died Aug 24, 1866. Mr. Connely moved with his family from KY in 1834 and settled on 270 acres a part of which is the present homestead of Mr. Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper are members of the Methodist Church in good standing, he is a sound Democrat. Has never sued or been sued, nor served as a witness in any court and is one of the most respected men in the township.
