Two daughters were born to Jackson & Dulcenia Clodfelter. Ella was b Dec 12, 1878 and Daisy Jan 28, 1880. Fate was unkind to the little family and took away the young wife and mother then only 18 years old March 5, 1880. Buried Sutherlin Cemetery. The two little daughters were taken to the home of relatives, Ella to her mother's uncle, Alfred Grimes and Daisy was taken to the home of her grandfather, Solomon Clodfelter where her Aunt Mat became am other to her. Daisy, who is my mother, enjoys the memory of those few years with her grandparents in the ancestral home. In Feb 1882, Jack & Tum as they were familiarly known bought the farm known as "Old Brick" also along Raccoon Creek but about 5 miles farther west. This old house was one of the very first brick houses in he vicinity being built by a Mr. McGill in 1830 ... On Sept 16 1883 Jackson Clodfelter married Anna Ardell Carrington at the parsonage at Morton, Ind. They went to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Carrington for a wedding supper and then to the "Old Brick" which became their home for several years. Within a few days, "Uncle Tum' took the two little girls, Ella and Daisy down the old creek road on horseback to a new home and new mother. The ch born to Jackson & Anna Clodfelter while they lived at the Old Brick were Maude, Dolpha, who lived to be 8, Bessie and Manford. Those were the days of simple and wholesome living, each with a task to do, as they all worked together to obtain more land which in turn gave a more comfortable living. The children attended the Old Spencer School. Attended Hebron Church near the home neighborhood of the parents. The exchange of visits among relative and friends ... Spring 1892 farm on hill just south of Portland Mills which has since been the family home. Here LaVina, Ray, Carl, Irene, Ralph and Josephine were born... children attended Portland Mills Schools, Clinton Center or Russellville HS...

CLODFELTER, J. T., P. O. Morton, Farmer, Section 33; born May 6, 1850 in this township; son of Solomon Clodfelter, born in NC Nov 26, 1807 and Matilda Clodfelter, born in VA July 29, 1822. Married Nov 15, 1877, Mary D. Sutherlin, born in this county July 26, 1861, daughter of John W. and Amanda E. Sutherlin. Solomon Clofelter is the son of John and Catherine Clodfelter, natives of NC who came to this county in 1830, where they resided till death. Solomon married Charity Cain in 1832, by whom he had one child, Washington; she died in 1838. Married in 1844 Sally McGaughey had two children, Melinda and one who died in infancy. She died in 1843; in 1846, Sept 24 he was united to Matilda Henkel, to whom were born Mary Jane (deceased); Elmina; Jackson T (above) Columbus L; Daniel N; Martha A and John W. Mr. J. T. and his brother, C. L. Clodfelter own 111 acres of land, won by their own industry. C. L. Clodfelter is a teacher in School No. 7. The family are all Lutherans. Politically, Democrats; all are of German descent.
