CLARK, Harmon

Harmon Clark, the Republican candidate for register of deeds
was born in Putnam County, Indiana in 1856 and came to Kansas in 1869 with his
father’s family and settled in Grant township. After Harmon grew up and began
business (farming) on his own account he moved into Franklin Township, where he
live don his farm until he was elected register of deeds in 1895. Mr. Clark’s
father was a Fremont Republican in 1856 and a staunch supporter of Republican
principles and Republican candidates as long as he lived. In view of these
facts we conclude Harmon came by his Republicanism regularly and honestly. He
couldn’t well be anything else if he had tried and he certainly never tried.
For the past 20 years Mr. Clark has been regarded as one of the hard working
reliable Republicans of Franklin township and the fact that the Populist
majority in that township has been reduced for 60 or 70 down to a figure which
gives the Republicans a fighting chance to carry it, is due to the energetic,
intelligent work of Mr. Clark and a number of others like him who have worked
with him. As register of deeds Mr. Clark has made a record which is
invulnerable to the attacks of the opposition and his reelection is not only
claimed by Republicans but conceded by our opponents. - kbz
