BURKETT, Benton C., P.O. Fincastle, Farmer, Sec 23; born Jan 26, 1822 in Davidson Co NC; son of Abraham and Catherine Hyre Burkett, natives of Stokes Co NC; the former died Aug 16, 1861, the latter July 29, 1856.  He came to this county in 1826, with his parents when but 3 years old.  Owns 1,400 acres of land, all made by his patient industry, assisted by a thrifty wife, Rebecca Nutgrass, whom he married in Clinton Twp, this county Ot 29, 1846; she was born in Shelby Co KY May 1, 1830, daughter of Harrison and nancy Nutgrass, natives of Ky; their childrens names are: Nancy C.; Rudy H.; Sarah E.; Rachel M.; Mary J.; James H. (deceased); Sophia A.; Francis M.; Dulcina D.; Susan A; Effie B. and Ida O. The Burketts are of German descent; Mr. Burkett's parents belonged to the German Baptist Church of which he and his wife are, also, members.  He stands among the prominent farmers of the county, belonging to the National party in politics.  Mrs. Burkett's parents settled in Clinton Twp, this county about 1836; her father is dead, but mother still lives in the above place.

Court Proceedings – Benton C. Burkett, Abraham Oliver, Samuel B. Leaten and Richard Lloyd vs. John W. Sutherlin et al. Foreclosure. Judgment in favor of Burkett for $3,104.75; Oliver for $567.21; Leaton for $217.82 and Lloyd for $217.82; all of above judgments against defendant John W. Sutherlin and foreclosure against all the defendants.
