BROWN, J. C. PO Carpentersville, Farmer, sec 23, was born Nov 20, 1856 in this township; son of Samuel and Lorena Brown, natives of Tenn who settled here 1829. Married Eliza HOURIE, born Ireland 1860; John Samuel Brown is their only child. Mr. Brown's father was married twice, first to Polly Anderson, by whom he had 3 children: Frances Jane, wife of JN Miller; Elizabeth R wife of Samuel F. Batman; and ELiza, first wife of James W. Risk; and again to Lorena Whitted of Tenn, J. C. brown being the only child of this marriage. He was one of the largest land owners and prominent farmers in this county; came here poor, but, at the time of his death, owned 1000 acres of land; died here October 1865. The mother of JC Brown is yet living but at her death he will fall heir to 392 acres of his father's estate.
