BLAKE, John E., P.O. Portland Mills, Farmer and Miller, Sec 21; born Oct 18, 1830 in Parke County, Ind; son of Isaac W. Blake born Oct 8, 1805 in Butler County died Nov 13, 1862 and Rachel Lions, born 27 of Feb 1811 in Butler Co Ohio died March 11, 1839 married Oct 12, 1828. He was married Feb 10, 1853 in this county to Mary Butcher, born in this county Oct 19, 1825 daughter of William C. and Sarah Butcher; has 7 children: William K.; Isaac N.; Chalres L.; Mary Ann; Sarah Salome; Ulysses Garnt and America E. Mr. Blake came to this county in 1862; bought a farm of 172 acres on which he now lives and the Portland Flour Mills, which he operates, his sons attending to the farm. The mill has four run of bubrs (sic) and turns out a first-class grade of flour. His grandfather, John Blake was a soldier in the War of 1812. Mrs. Blake's parents were among the first settlers in this county and both died here. Few families in this county are better known that the Blakes and Butchers. In politics is a Republican.
