BATMAN, Samuel F. PO Carpentersville; Farmer, Sect 14, is a native of Putnam COunty born Nov 7, 1833. Was married Feb 1, 1835 to Elizabeth R, daughter of Samuel and Polly Brown, natives of Tenn; born July 29, 1835 in this county. THey have had 3 children: Mary R. born Nov 2, 1855 died March 6, 1867; Sarah F. born June 15, 1857 and a daughter who died in infancy. Mr. Batman is the 8th in a family of 12, all living but the oldest; is among the large land owners and stock raisers of the township, dealing also in fine horses. Owns 435 acres of land and is considered one of the best farmers in the neighborhood. Politically, is a firm Democrat. His parents, Thomas and Sarah Cornwell Batman the former born in Nelson Co KY Jan 24, 1797 the latter Jefferson Co KY Nov 5, 1799, emigrated to this county in 1836, settling in Franklin Township. A poor man at the start, his father owned at the time of his death 223 acres of land, all won by hard work and economy; he was a member of the Baptist Church; his wife, whose death occurred March 15, 1863 belonging to the Christian. Mr. Samuel Batman's parents and grandparents, Isaac and Frances Clark-Brown settled in this county in 1829; the last mentioned moved to Buchanan Co MO in 1840, where they died; her father had but $100 in his possession when he came, but owned when he died over 1000 acres of land.
