BALCH A. V. (Almstead) PO Bainbridge, Farmer, Sec 36, born May 7, 1837 in Franklin Township; son of AB Balch, born Indiana and Vashti Catherwood born in Nicholas co KY. Married Nov 28, 1867 Julia Ann, daughter of William G. and Jane Collins, natives of Ky born in Ky Aug 4, 1848; has two children living Jennie V and Albert and one dead, William Bluford. Mr. Balch's father came to this county in 1837; mother in 1831; were Married March 1835; removed to Parke County, Indiana where they lived about two years then removed to this county, residing here till death; were both members of the Presbyterian Church; had two sons, Samuel A (deceased) and the subject of this sketch, who was born after his father's death which occurred March 8, 1837. From his father he inherited 80 acres of land; with him resides his mother's brother, Albert Catherwood, born in Nicholas Co KY Dec 7, 1807. Is a Republican in politics; an elder of the Presbyterian Church favoring all that tends to the moral culture of the neighborhood. He served his country four months during the late war, enlisting in 153rd Indiana Infantry in 1865.
