The Stump Family burial site was lost to history many years ago. At one time it could be found just south of the town of Medaryville, Indiana, on 1550 West at about 350 North. On the east side of the road is a farm fence dividing a wooded area from a farm field. Many years ago there were large field stones to mark the grave sites. Those were tossed into the wooded area when the land was cleared for farming. Thus the site is no longer marked. George Stump Sr. was the third settler in the Medaryville area, arriving in March of 1835. Mr. Stump was from Hardy county, West Virginia, traveling through Ohio to Tippecanoe County, Ind. then moving to the Mearyville area. George Stump Sr. had enlisted in the Black Hawk War while residing in Tippecanoe County. A Catherine Stump, who was the daughter of Michael Stump Jr., was married to George Whitecotton, thus we assume James Whitecottom, buried here with the Stumps, was related. There are no death records for these pioneers. Zera H. Howe, Medaryville historian, deceased, compiled this information.
