LYDIA SWARTZ WILSON

Mrs Lydia Swartz Wilson, who would have been 86 years old the coming Dec 1, a devout Christian and a life-long resident of Black township and Mt. Vernon, died unexpectedly at 3:15 o'clock Friday (15 Jul 1955) afternoon at the home of her son, Arnold F. Wilson 329 W. Eighth street.

She was the widow of Andrew Clinton Wilson, a well-known Black township farmer who died in 1946.  Mrs. Wilson and her husband established residence with the son and his family in 1942.

The late deceased was active for a woman of her advanced age and was up and about her home yesterday.  Death was attributed to a coronary condition.

The body is at the Short-Niehaus Funeral Home where friends are invited to call after 10 a.m. Sunday.  The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the short Niehaus chapel and will be followed by burial in Bellefontaine cemetery.  Rev. Floyd S. Stephens, pastor of the South Mt. Vernon Methodist Parish, will conduct the service.

Surviving are the son; a grandson, Charles C Wilson, a Weather Bureau meteorologist at Lexington, Ky; and a great grandson, Dean E. Wilson, Lexington.

Mrs. Wilson was the last of her generation.  She was born in Western Black township, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Swartz, who came to Posey county from Germany.  Orphaned at an early age, she was reared by an uncle, John Schmidt.

Her membership in the Methodist Church dated from girlhood.  Her first affiliation was with Prairie Methodist Church in Western Black.  When Prairie Church ceased to exist she transferred her membership in Black Chapel and was a member of Black at the time of her death.  She was also a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of Black Chapel.
