JASPER WHIPPLE

June 15 1957
Jasper Whipple, a representative of two pioneer South Posey county families and a land agent and farm manager of wide reputation, died at
8:35 o'clock last night in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He was 78 years old last March 16 - the day after he was struck by an auto as he walked across
East Third street at the Main street intersection.  He had been confined to his home at 231 E. Second street and the hospital since.  Injuries from the accident were complicated by a series of cerebral hemorrhages which in turn were followed by pneumonia and heart illness.  His condition had been critical since he returned to Deaconess Hospital three weeks ago.

The body has been brought to Weisinger Funeral Home in
Mt. Vernon where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening.

Rev. J. Kenneth Forbes, minister of
First Methodist Church of which the deceased was a member, will conduct the funeral service in Weisinger chapel at 4 p.m. Monday.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Surviving are the wife, Mary Curtis Carothers Whipple; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Houser, Decatur, Ill; and Mrs. Lloyd Hisrich, Batesville, Ind; a son, Herbert Whipple, Glencoe, Ill; a suburb of Chicago; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Whipple, Chattanooga, Tenn. and Mrs. Grace Alldredge, of near Mr. Vernon, and two brothers, Warren Whipple, Miami, Fla., and Herman Whipple, Mt. Vernon.

The daughters and son were born to Mr. Whipple's first marriage to Ella Axton.  She died in 1948 and in 1950 Mr. Whipple married his surviving wife.

Born on a farm on the
Upton road west of Mt. Vernon, a son of Marion Whipple, an extensive farmer, and Mary Hall Whipple, the late deceased spent his long, successful life in the Mt. Vernon vicinity.

As a young man he engaged in farming.  Later he entered the life insurance field and from there moved into real estate sales and farm management.

For many years, Mr. Whipple was the land agent of People's Bank & Trust Co.  In addition he managed the farming interests of a number of
Mt. Vernon persons.

His shrewd business judgment was reflected in his becoming a substantial citizen and the acquirement of considerable real estate holdings, among them the Whipple office and apartment building at Third and
Main street in Mt. Vernon.

His only fraternal affiliation was with Posey aerie, No. 1717, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
