BURTON E WHIPPLE

Burton E. Whipple, 60, of 1633 Bosse avenue, Evansville, a Posey county native and member of a prominent Posey county family, died early today in St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville where he underwent surgery for a lung cancer on April 1.

 

Since the end of World War II, in which the deceased's only child, Aviation Mechanic Malcom Whipple, 22 was lost in the sinking of an airplane transport vessel at sea, Mr. Whipple had been a fireman on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.

 

The deceased's parents were Elijah Whipple and Nancy Jane Nesler Whipple, and he was born and reared in the Upton vicinity northwest of Mt. Vernon.

 

The body is at Alexander Funeral Home in Evansville where the funeral service will be conducted Sunday afternoon at an hour that had not been determined at noon today.  Burial will be in Tupman cemetery on Red Bank road near Evansville.

 

Surviving are the wife, the former Jesse McHenry of Mt. Vernon; the stepmother, Mrs. Osa Whipple, Mt. Vernon, a half-sister, Mrs. Stoy Hedges, Mt. Vernon, a half-brother, Earl Whipple, Boonville and two nieces, Mrs. Morris Aldrich and Mrs. Arthur Lueder, both of Mt. Vernon.
