"Charles Sylvester Vanway, aged 74,
a former resident of Griffin, Ind., died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C.
B. Shively, in Evansville last Thursday.
He was born February 4, 1854, in Posey county,
where he spent most of his life.
He was married May 27, 1876 to Parmelia
Jane Nelson, who preceded him in death April 12, 1911. One son and four daughters were born to
them, of whom one daughter died in infancy.
Surviving are the following children: Percy Vanway
and Mrs. H. J. Barnett, Fairfield, Mrs. R. H. Powell, Chicago, Mrs. C. B. Shively, Evansville; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers,
John Vanway, Clearwater, Fla. and George Vanway,
Grayville; and one sister, Mrs. J. E. York, Maunie.
He was converted and united with the M. E. Church at Griffin in the early part of 1889 under the
preaching of Rev. J. K. Hugo.
The body was taken to Griffin, where funeral services were held at the
Methodist church Sunday, conducted by Rev. Sanders of Palestine, Ill., who was assisted by the pastor, Rev.
Montgomery.
Mr. and Mrs. George Vanway and son and
Mrs. R. E. Marler of this city attended the funeral
services."
