Mrs. FIDELLIA PHILLIPS TRAFFORD

April 16, 1957

Mrs. Fidellia Phillips Trafford, 72, as beloved life-long resident of the Farmersville community and a member of one of South Posey county's oldest and most prominent families died unexpectedly at 8:20 today at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was the wife of Enzla E. Trafford, an auctioneer and livestock breeder of reputation and the owner operator of Trafford Stables at Farmersville, widely known for its saddle horses, riders and riding school.

In addition to her close association with her husband in his successful business interests, Mrs. Trafford was for many years a raiser of Barred Rock chickens that captured numerous state awards and became the primary stock of many poultry farms in the Midwest.

Mrs. Trafford had been in poor health for many years.  Eight weeks ago she became ill of influenza but was believed on the road to recovery from influenza when her condition worsened suddenly and she entered the Evansville hospital last night.

The body is at Weisinger Funeral Home where friends may call after Wednesday noon.  Elder Leo Dodd, of the Primitive Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral service in Weisinger chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.  The deceased was a life-long member of Bethel Primitive Baptist church at Farmersville.

Surviving in addition to the husband, are a nephew, Myron Downen, Poseyville, of David-Downen Motors Co., and a great niece, Mrs. John Schmitzer, R. R. 5, Mt. Vernon.

Death severed marital bonds of 47 years.

Since 1913, Mrs. Trafford and her husband had occupied the one dwelling at Farmersville.

The deceased's parents were John T. Phillips and Thanie Alldredge Phillips, representatives of pioneer Posey county families and both natives of Black township.
