Anita L. Theuerkauf

MOUNT VERNON - Anita L. (Scherer) Theuerkauf, age 91, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the Mount Vernon Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.

 

She was born November 8, 1915, in Mount Vernon, Ind., the daughter of the late George H. D. and Mary C. (Brandt) Scherer.

 

Anita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Arthur H. Theuerkauf, in 1987; her infant twin sisters, Emma and Emily; and her brother, Herbert Scherer.

 

She was a homemaker, a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was an excellent cook and baker. She shared her good food with her neighbors, her church family, and many friends. She loved to sew and through the years made many crafts and enjoyed giving them to others. She was a lifetime member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where she was very active in teaching Sunday school. She was a member of the Ladies Aide Society at Trinity. She was a charter and board member of the Posey County Senior Citizens. Her life was centered around helping and doing for others. "She will be greatly missed."

 

Surviving are her daughter and her son-in-law, Martha and Gary Porter of Mount Vernon; her grandson, Jason and his wife, Heather Porter; and her great-grandchildren, Anthony and Katelyn, all of Linton, Ind. She is also survived by a special niece, Jo Ann Healy and her husband, Floyd; a godson, Mark Healy; and several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., in Mount Vernon, Ind., with Rev. Penny Greer officiating, burial in St. John's Cemetery in Bufkin.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, March 9, and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Schneider Funeral Home.

 

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.

 

Her family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Gordon Vogel and the staff at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care and concern for our precious loved one.
