Funeral services for Albert E. Swope, 84, a Southern Indiana civic and church leader and an insurance agent and executive for many years who died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday (17 Sep 1955) at his home at 418 West Fourth street, Mt. Vernon will be conducted Tuesday morning.

 

Rev. Glen Kaetzel, minister of McCutchanville Methodist Church, will conduct the service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert Greek Mortuary chapel in Evansville where the body now lies in state.  Burial will be in McCutchanville Methodist Church cemetery.

 

Mr. Swope is survived by his wife, Esther D., Mt. Vernon; five daughters, Mrs. Clarence Cooksey, Mrs. Elnora Frances, Mrs. James Riggs and Mrs. James McCutchan all of Evansville, and Mrs. Guy German, College Park Ga; a stepson, Robert T. Goebel, Midland, Tex; 21 grandsons, eight granddaughters and 35 great grandchildren.

 

An only son, Ralph, died in 1948 and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Henry, died in 1952.

 

The deceased had had a varied and active career.  As a young man he served in every capacity in the Evansville post office except that of postmaster.

 

He was for nine years assessor of Vanderburgh county.

 

As a resident of MmcCutchanville he organized the Old Hickory camp and in 1892, organized White Oak camp, No. 26, Indiana Woodmen of the World, serving as the secretary for many years.  He was a member of Woodmen of the World for 62 years. - article not complete.
