MARY JANE  Martha Anne (Davis) STREAMER

DEC 1936

Death claimed a most estimable woman, when it ended the life of Mrs. James Streamer, December 2, 1936 after a brief illness of pneumonia, aged 74 years, 7 months and 14 days.

Martha Anne Davis, daughter of Abijah and Sarah Way Davis was born May 16, 1862 in Gibson County, near Griffin.

Left an orphan at the age of thirteen she grew to young womanhood in the home of her uncle. March 17, 1883, at Mt. Carmel, Ill, she was united in marriage to James Streamer and to this union nine children were born.

A son died in infancy; a daughter, aged 18, just flowering into womanhood; and eleven years ago, Ota, wife of Kelley Cox departed this life.

Mrs. Streamer, although not very strong, was an active person and alert to everything that was going on around her. When ever there was an event of interest taking place she enjoyed seeing what was going on and being a part of it. Her greatest pleasure was the family gathering with her children and her home was thrown open to neighbors and friends for quiltings, Christmas parties and many other hospitable events. She was a wonderful mother, a good wife and a devoted Christian, having united with the Bethlehem church February 6, 1902. One of the big events in her life was the celebration in 1933 of her Golden wedding. Mr. Streamer aided and abetted her in the spirit of hospitality which made their farm home a popular place with young and old. One of the calamities which befell her was a broken limb but her courageous spirit buoyed her up and she never allowed her lameness to keep her at home. Such women are deeply mourned and greatly missed.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Endicott of Mt. Carmel, Ill, Mrs. Clarence Marsh of Poseyville and four sons, Clarence and Clifford of New Harmony; Ezra and Charles of Detroit. Very near to her heart were her thirteen grandchildren, whose delight was to go to grandmother's house. A large circle of friends offer sincere sympathy to this bereaved family.
