Gilbert W. Snyder, 37, chief chemist of Mt. Vernon Milling Co., and one of the local milling firm's most valuable employees, died suddenly and u unexpectedly at his home at 517 Wood street at 2:45 a.m. today.

He had not been ill and was unaware that he had a coronary condition.  He became ill after he had gone to bed and died from a coronary attack as he sought a home remedy relief from what he believed to be indigestion.

The Snyder family has resided in Mt. Vernon since the fall of 1950.

Mt. Vernon Milling co., management said today that the deceased was one of the firm's "most conscientious and most valuable employes".  Mt. Vernon Milling Co., will be closed on the day of the funeral.

Mr. Snyder's body is at Shirt Niehaus Funeral Home chapel where friends may call this evening.  It will be taken to Kittinger Funeral Home in Carmi, Ill., tomorrow.  Funeral arrangements had not been definitely completed early this afternoon.

Surviving are the wife, Vina, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Huff, reside at Maunie, Ill; two sons, Dale, an Danny 5, the mother, Mrs. Estella Snyder, Carmi, Ill; a brother Royal E. Snyder, Grand Rapids, Mich., and two sisters, Mrs. Reba Kelly, Lansing, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Collard, Lake Charles, La.

A native of Burnt Prairie, Ill, a son of John W. Snyder, and Estella Biggerstaff Snyder, the deceased graduated from Enfield Ill., High school and after nine years' U.S. Army service including duty as a sergeant in the European theater in World War II entered Michigan State University.  He was graduated from the university in 1949.

He was scheduled to complete a night course at Evansville College this week.

Mr. Snyder was a very devoted family man and a member of Mt. Vernon lodge of Elks.

A service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kittinger Funeral Home will be followed by a service at Marshall Ferry General Baptist Church at Rising Sun, Ill. (Dogtown) at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.  Pallbearers will be Dr. L. John Vogel, a close personal friend of Mr. Snyder, and Bernard H. Sloan, Robert Ozinga, Dean Willibey, Hugh J Mathes and Carl Schettler, Jr., associates of the deceased in Mt. Vernon Milling Co. all of Mt. Vernon.

Snyder Funeral In Illinois Tomorrow

The body of Gilbert W. Snyder 37, chief chemist of Mt. Vernon Milling Co., who died very suddenly and unexpectedly from a coronary attack at his home at 517 Wood street early Tuesday was moved late this morning from Short-Niehaus Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon to Kittinger Funeral Home in Carmi, Ill.  The deceased chemist was a member of American Association of Cereal Chemists and American Society of Brewing Chemists.
