Merle Lee Slygh, age 87, passed away Friday,
Jan. 26, 2007,
at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Merle was born Feb.
24, 1919, in Posey County, the son of the late Charles Phillip and
Ida May (Blackburn) Slygh. He was
a World War II veteran of the Army, where he served in Hawaii, New Guinea and the Philippines. Merle was a member of VFW Post 1114,
American Legion Owen Dunn Post 5 and the Indiana Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Hattie
Fleming and Selma Wentzel.
Merle is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret (Oeth) Slygh, of Mount Vernon,
Ind.; nephews; Brad Oeth, of Falls Church, Va., and
Bryan Oeth and family of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and
several cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Rev. Tom Buffington will officiate,
with military rites provided by Owen Dunn Post 5 Honor Guard. Schneider Funeral
Home in Mount
Vernon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Vernon General Baptist Church or Mount Pleasant General Baptist Church.
