James Henry (Jimmy) Sears, six-year-old
Jimmy had been ill with the disease for about a year, according to
his mother, Mrs. Ellen Sears, of 3122
On February 20, four days after his sixth birthday, he was taken
back to Baptist hospital for three blood transfusions.
Leukemia is a disease in which the white cells in the bloodstream
"crowd out" the red cells and the blood-producing cells of the bones
break down.
Thursday, he was given two more blood transfusions in an attempt
to curb the disease’s progress, but Jimmy succumbed early Sunday.
His father, James Henry Sears, Sr., died
Surviving besides his mother are three sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Smith
of Washington, D. C. and Misses Susie and Karen Jane, both at home, and a grandmother,
The body has been taken to the residence from the Alexander
funeral home. It will remain there until
