MRS EMMA CECILIA SCHISLER

Mrs. Emma Cecilia Schisler, 89, nee Sienknecht, widow of John Schisler, a prominent Western Black township farmer for many years died at 7:30 o'clock last night at her home at 924 East fifth street in Mt. Vernon after a long illness.

The respected resident of Posey county and Mt. Vernon for 85 years was born on Jun 23, 1865 in Eisdorf, Schleswif-Holstein, Germany.  As the adopted daughter of Claus and Anna Lienau she came to America with her parents at the age of four years and had resided in Posey county since.

Mr. Schisler, husband of the late deceased and a successful farmer, died in 1950.  Mr. and Mrs. Schisler were married in 1884 and spent most of their married life on a farm west of Mt. Vernon moving to Mt. Vernon in 1929.

Of eight children born to the union, seven survive-- three sons, Charles, William H., and Henry, all of Mt. Vernon, and four daughters, Cecilia and Louise Schisler, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Leland Freimiller, Terre Haute, and Mrs. F. B. Stockert, St. Louis.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Dora Osterman and Mrs. Anna Uhde, Mt. Vernon.

The body will remain at the Short-Niehaus Funeral Home where friends are invited to call until noon Friday when it will be taken to Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church.  It will lie in state at the church until the funeral service there at 2 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

The officiating minister will be Rev. August E. Binder, pastor of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, of which the deceased had been a member since girlhood.  Mrs. Schisler was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of Trinity Church for many years.
